ATS Modified ECU and flow matched AFM - Gen2 only

 

These have 7600rm rev limiters, no boost/fuel cut, and no speed limiter on US models. They are available for 91-92 US cars, 93-95 US cars and 91-93 JDM cars. I will need to know your stock ecu part number in advance. There is a core deposit required, or you can send us your ECU and AFM in advance. Yes, I will accept a broken AFM as a core.

Some ECUs, specifically 93+ I do not have cores for. You will need to send your core ECU and AFM in advance for the modification and tuning process.

 

Here is a before and after. The car has the following modifications: stock gen2 motor, CT21/27 turbocharger, 3" downpipe, 3" exhaust (ebay versions but with magnaflow mufflers), manual boost controller, Walbro fuel pump, ATS Modified ECU and flow matched AFM.

 

 

Blue is before with a stock ecu (with fuel cut manually disabled) and an off the shelf AFM. The spikes are where the air fuel was so rich that the car misfired. You could not feel this on the street, but it shows up on the dyno graph big time. Actual peak torque is 245lb ft. By tuning the air flow meter and matching it to the ECU we spooled faster, made 25lb ft more torque and 18 more whp. The boost controll settings remained locked.

 

 

What's the secret here? Well all these AFM's are approaching 40 years old. The springs get weaker, and the flapper door just blasts open when you touch the throttle causing the ECU to dump fuel creating excessively right AFR's. First thing we do is clean it, years of use can cause a lot of buildup inside the AFM. Next we disassemble, inspect, and clean the internal electrical componetns. Then it's off the the dyno (we are building a flow bench/engine simulator for these in the future) to test the AFR response with its maching ECU. Adjustments are made to the base position, spring tension, and idle air bypass. Once we have a satisfactory result the AFM is removed, marked,  resealed, and ready to ship to you.
